”And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)
Romans 12:1-2 says “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Verse 2 emphasizes be not conformed to the world! What does that mean? That is conformity with the world, making a friend with the world. What is wrong with that? Because according to the scriptures, friendship with the world is equal to enmity with God!
James 4:4 says ”Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” That’s it! Making friend with the world will turn you to a worldly person which in turn will darken your mind making you insensitive to the things of God, which if it continues will eventually alienate you from the life of God Ephesians 4:17-18 “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.” The scripture is very clear on this - there's no middle ground! There's no standing on the fence! There's no room for a compromise! You cannot walk hand in hand with God and the world. It is not possible. You are either with God or with the world.
To love the world is to be God's enemy.
According to 1 John 2:15-17, ”Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” And according to 1 Peters 5:8, ”You must constantly be on the alert concerning the devices of the devil who's always going about seeking who to bring down. You must be on your guard at all times because the devil uses subtle enticement as his weapon.” The devil is constantly cooking up seemingly harmless looking vices and negative habits to entice and deceive Christians pressuring them into blending with the world all in a bid to turn them into enemies of God. Be very very careful.
Jesus Christ said in John 15:18-19, ”If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” Also, in His prayers for the believers in John 17:12-23, He prayed to the Father thus: “While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one.”
You must consciously, resolutely and consistently renounce the world and be transformed continuously by renewing your mind with the Word of God.
